ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Holiday Inn in Latham will be hosting the return of the Albany Job Fair. The event is scheduled for October 4. The Adirondack Balloon Festival turned 50 - and welcomed thousands to see the third-largest hot air balloon festival in the United States. ALBANY, N.Y. (WTEN) -- On Monday, Governor Hochul announced the state is deploying an additional 150 national guard members to help with the ongoing migrant crisis. This will total over 2000 national guard members on the asylum seeker mission with 250 national guard members being fully focused on case management, speeding up the process for migrants to exit shelter and attain legal work status. With temporary status for Venezuelans, the Biden administration turns to a familiar tool "Helping them support themselves, helping them leave these shelters because I believe they did not come all these thousands of miles to live in a shelter with hundreds if not, thousands of others," said Governor Hochul. There will be a wide selection of genres, including adult fiction, children's picture and chapter books, cookbooks, non-fiction, and more! BURLINGTON, Vt. (NEWS10) -- A Rutland man has pled not guilty to drug trafficking charges, according to the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Vermont. Roosevelt Norris, 54, was charged with three counts of distributing cocaine base by a federal grand jury in Burlington. According to the court, Norris allegedly sold drugs to a confidential informant on three separate occasions between July and August. If convicted, Norris faces up to 20 years in prison and a maximum fine of $1 million. Additionally, Norris would face up to a lifetime of post-release supervision, with a mandatory minimum of three years of supervised release. ST. LOUIS – One man is dead following a shooting in the Vandeventer neighborhood of north St. Louis City.A spokesperson for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department says the shooting took place just after 2:20 p.m. in the 3900 block of Page Boulevard, near North Sarah Avenue.Police arrived to find a Black man suffering from a gunshot wound to his head. (AP) — A Missouri judge tossed Republican-written ballot summary language Monday that described several proposed constitutional amendments as allowing “dangerous and unregulated abortions until live birth.”Cole County Circuit Judge Jon Beetem rewrote the ballot summary to describe the language as establishing the “right to make decisions about reproductive health care, including abortion and contraception,” as well as undoing the state’s almost total ban on abortions.In Missouri, summaries are provided to voters on ballots to help quickly explain sometimes lengthy and complicated proposals. Two people are in critical condition or worse after the small plane they were in crashed into a soccer field near San Pedro and Wilmington Monday afternoon, authorities said.The crash was reported a few minutes before 1 p.m. in the 400 block of Westmont Drive, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.That address is listed as being in San Pedro, though the Los Angeles Times' Mapping L.A. tool says it is in Wilmington."Both patients were transported ... in at least critical condition," fire officials said. With COVID-era protections gone, the number of renters facing eviction in Los Angeles continues to climb by the thousands each month.From February through the end of August, approximately 50,000 eviction notices were filed by landlords in the city, according to figures released on Monday by the L.A. Controller’s Office.From February through July 2023, the city received 40,000 notices. However, the one-month spike can be chalked up to thousands of notifications that were received by mail that had not been previously counted.A spokesperson said 96% of them involve non-payment of rent and 91% came with a three-day eviction notice.While evictions are occurring throughout the city, this map shows specific neighborhoods and zip codes are disproportionally affected.For example, 3,585 eviction notices have been filed in Hollywood and 2,458 in the Fairfax neighborhood.
