Celtics’ Kristaps Porzingis to miss at least one week with calf injury

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 18:27:21 GMT

Kristaps Porzingis will miss at least one week after the big man suffered a left calf strain in Friday’s loss to the Magic, Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla said on Sunday.Porzingis left during the third quarter of Friday’s loss and did not return after he felt some tightness. He did not think the injury was serious, posting on Instagram on Saturday that he received good news after reportedly having an MRI. But the big man will miss several games before the Celtics re-evaluate him.“I think it’s just a matter of how he feels,” Mazzulla said. “How it kind of heals when people look at it again after a week or so.”Porzingis will likely miss at least three games – Sunday’s game against the Hawks, Tuesday’s matchup with the Bulls and Friday’s tilt with the 76ers – as he heals his injury. But it’s possible he doesn’t miss more than that thanks to a tweak in the schedule due to the In-Season Tournament. If the Celtics do not qualify for the quarterfinals of the tournament, their next game after F...

More overflow shelter sites coming ‘soon,’ Housing Secretary says

The state will open more overflow space for those families excluded from Emergency Assistance shelter by overcrowding, according to the Secretary of Housing and Livable Communities.Ed Augustus, the former Worcester City Manager elevated to the new cabinet level position created by Gov. Maura Healey earlier this year, said that the at-capacity condition of the shelter system will require additional — temporary — overflow space while the state’s migrant crisis continues.“We know we need some overflow sites, the use of the state office buildings are really just a short term bridge until we can get some of these overflow sites online,” he said on WCVB. in an interview broadcast Sunday. For weeks now the state has been at or near the 7,500 family shelter capacity set by Gov. Maura Healey as of November 1, with more eligible families entering the system daily. Those families unable to secure shelter have been placed on a waiting list. EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Patriots left tackle Trent Brown was surprisingly active Sunday as he continues to deal with ankle and knee injuries, but he did not start the team’s loss to the Giants.Instead, Conor McDermott, who started the Patriots’ previous two games at left tackle and was signed to the 53-man roster off of the practice squad Saturday, started, and Brown rotated into the game.Related ArticlesNew England Patriots | Callahan: Under Bill Belichick’s watch, the Patriots have become the NFL’s worst team New England Patriots | Bill Belichick’s answers about Patriots’ QB situation only create more questions New England Patriots | Mac Jones benched for Bailey Zappe for fourth time in loss to Giants New England Patriots | Patriots rookie receiver Demario Douglas ruled out with head injury New England Patriots | Patriots starter suprisingly active in Week 12 matchu...

Callahan: Under Bill Belichick’s watch, the Patriots have become the NFL’s worst team

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 18:27:21 GMT

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Bill Belichick spent all week dodging questions about the identity of his starting quarterback because that was the only game he could win.Football?Forget it.After losing Sunday’s 10-7 stinker in New York, Belichick is now the face and architect of the NFL’s worst team. The Patriots are 2-9, a byproduct of four years of roster rot and mismanagement; a collection of ill-coached misfits, the best of whom have regressed under Belichick’s watch. How else do you explain the Patriots losing to the team with the NFL’s worst point differential? Or falling to the only franchise with a bottom-six offense, defense and special teams by DVOA? Or succumbing to an undrafted rookie quarterback who couldn’t win a starting job at Syracuse, lives at home and doesn’t fold his own laundry or cook his own meals? And yet that rookie quarterback, Tommy DeVito, was unquestionably the best passer on the field Sunday.Mac Jones couldn’t even make ...

JERUSALEM (AP) — Plastic chairs as beds. Meals of bread and rice. Hours spent waiting for the bathroom. As hostages return to Israel after seven weeks of Hamas captivity, information about the conditions of their confinement has begun to trickle out.The 58 hostages freed under a cease-fire deal over the past three days have largely stayed out of the public eye, with most still in hospitals around the country.Nearly two months after Hamas militants dragged them into Gaza during a bloody cross-border attack on Israel that also killed 1,200 people, most freed hostages appear to be in stable physical condition. Information about the conditions of their captivity has been tightly controlled, but family members of the released hostages have begun to share details about their loved ones’ experiences.
