The Pac-12 Conference issued a statement aimed at stability after Colorado became the third school in a year to announce plans to leave. The nine schools remaining for the 2024-25 season were largely silent Friday. Colorado on Thursday announced it would join the Big 12 beginning in 2024, joining Big Ten-bound Southern California and UCLA in an exodus that could continue in coming weeks and months. Their departures coincide with the expiration of the league’s current media rights deals and the Pac-12 has not yet announced a lucrative deal going forward.Shortly after CU’s regents approved the move to the Big 12, the Pac-12 issued a statement pledging to soldier on. Possible Pac-12 expansion targets could include San Diego State and SMU.“We are focused on concluding our media rights deal and securing our continued success and growth,” the Pac-12 said. “Immediately following the conclusion of our media rights deal, we will embrace expansion opportunities and bring new fans...

NFL players compete all offseason and through training camp to make the active roster of their current team — or perhaps even elsewhere. But staying there isn’t easy. Especially with injuries a constant factor in such a physical sport. When the regular season begins, each team can have up to 53 players on its active roster. That comes after three cutdowns during the summer from the 90-player rosters with which teams open training camp. Players could end up having other roster designations as teams try to upgrade positions or compensate for injuries at certain spots. But what do they mean — to the players and teams?INJURED RESERVEOfficially, it’s called the reserve/injured list but is commonly referred to simply as IR. Teams place players on this list when they have a football-related injury and will need to miss at least a few weeks. Players on IR don’t count against the active roster. If a player is placed on this list before the regular season begins, he’s for...

The homeowner then shot and killed the lion. Can you legally kill a mountain lion in Colorado?CPW said they are not anticipating that any charges will be filed against the homeowner.According to CPW, you can legally hunt mountain lions in the state, but there are some rules to follow. Why did Jeffco wait to warn about the trail predator? If you are hunting the cat, you must apply for and carry a mountain lion license. By JOSH BOAK and SEUNG MIN KIM (Associated Press)AUBURN, Maine (AP) — President Joe Biden — buoyed by new signs the economy is continuing on the upswing — took a swipe on Friday at House Republicans’ flirtations with an impeachment inquiry, quipping that GOP lawmakers may decide to impeach him because inflation is cooling down. Standing in a textile manufacturing facility in Auburn Biden pointed to inflation statistics that showed the U.S. has the lowest rate of price increases among the world’s biggest economies. Though he was careful to say he was not taking a victory lap on the economy, Biden suggested that his Republican opponents in Congress may need to find a fresh line of attack against him because of improving economic circumstances.“Maybe they’ll decide to impeach me because it’s coming down,” Biden said. “I don’t know. I’d love that one.”Earlier this week, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy made his mo...

Patriots training camp Day 3: Bill O’Brien’s offense opens up, but where are the weapons?

FOXBORO — Bill O’Brien may prove to be the Patriots’ savior this season, even if only for his Xs and Os.But through the start of training camp, O’Brien might already be running short on fishes and loaves. As the Patriots expanded their increasingly clever offensive playbook Friday, three of their five best pass-catchers literally came up empty. Through three training camp practices, wide receivers Kendrick Bourne and Tyquan Thornton and tight end Mike Gesicki have yet to catch a single pass during competitive team drills. Meanwhile, sixth-round rookie wideout Demario Douglas caught four Friday — by himself. It should be noted the Pats offense continues to operate within the tight confines of the red zone against a defense that expects pass and rolled over 10 starters from last season. But if Gesicki, Bourne and Thornton fail to play to their potential, the schemes and game plans O’Brien draws up won’t matter. Football is a game of matchups.Not...
